It is also thanks to its Young Tanners Group that the tanning district of Santa Croce sull’Arno best manages the generational change of the entrepreneurial class and with it the evolution of the whole territory constantly bringing togheter the enthusiasm of the youngest and the experience of the most senior, just as the tanneries of the district with the most sophisticated new technologies know how to enhance ancient and precious artisan processes.

The educational project AMICI PER LA PELLE was created in 2010 from an idea of the GRUPPO GIOVANI CONCIATORI of the Distretto Santa Croce. It explains the tanning industry and its potential in middle schools bringing the younger local generations to the tanning industry and resources connected to the local leather industry. Every year, as part of “Amici per la Pelle“ (Friends of the Leather Industry), the students of the secondary middle schools of the Distretto Santa Croce are brought to discover the mechanisms, secrets and curiosities of the world of tanning. Visits to tanneries, companies and facilities in the area provide an opportunity to see the different stages of the tanning industry enriching the experience of the students involved in the project. The young students of “Amici per la Pelle” are also invited to participate in a competition of ideas in which they are challenged with the product, leather, in a series of fun activities that stimulate curiosity and ingenuity. This is will help many students come to know about the many interesting and fascinating work opportunities available if they choose leather supply chain courses in their further education.
