The ability of the Santa Croce District is to combine concretely company results and the protection of the ecosystem in a shared path for the benefit of the whole community.

Being part of the Santa Croce District means having quality production standards that are not only the highest, but they are also certified for their sustainability. The Tuscan district is the only tanning district to have the EMAS certification (Eco Management and Audit Scheme), which is held only by other 4 industrial districts all over Italy. EMAS is a premium management instrument developed by the European Commission for companies, institutions, entrepreneurs and other public administrations to evaluate, report, and improve their environmental performance.

Among the challenges of the district, the new certification of quality promoted by the Associazione Conciatori and shared with the Scuola Universitaria Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa: this is a tool aimed at defining and showing in a certain way the standards respected from the industrial supply chain and the leather enterprises of the district in their processes, in numerous fields, from the productive to the ethical and environmental one.

In each of these sectors, the supply chain and the companies of the Santa Croce District are already committed to respect even stricter limits than those governing the market: the new certification will be able to recognize the maximum quality of the performances, because anyone who buys the items produced by the SANTA CROCE District has to be aware of how much the Tuscan tanning is committed every day to offer the best quality.

The new certification will involve the big players of the fashion industry in order to regulate together with them the parameters to evaluate the industrial performance of the sector, rewarding the most virtuous ones.
