Renewal of the EMAS for the Tuscan tanning district, that is
the confirmation of its real commitment to the implementation and enhancement
of policies and practices based on environmental sustainability. In recent
days, at the Tanners Association, the verification of conformity of the
districts with the EMAS regulatory parameters was carried out and it was
successfully concluded by the competent body that conducted the audit (Rina).
EMAS (Eco-management and audit scheme), is a tool promoted
by the European Community to encourage and reward the implementation of
environmentally responsible strategies by individual companies and complex
industrial realities, shared by the public and private sector. There are
totally four EMAS industrial districts in Italy and the Tuscan tanning district
is one of them. Its results have been sent to the Ministry of the Environment,
which in the coming weeks will formalise the renewal of the EMAS certification
for the Tuscan tanning district.
