
Hundreds of visitors were present for a rich programme of activities on the issue of water and industrial treatment: it is the picture of the event ” A Spasso per l’Aquarno” ( A Walk around Aquarno), Saturday March 24, the Santa Croce sull’Arno plants of Aquarno and Ecoespanso were open to the public for World Water Day.
Marathon inside the water treatment plant. Highlight of the day the Water March, the 16th test of the 40th Provincial Walking trophy , which took place along the two industrial plants connecting way. Many citizens participated together with the representatives of the institutions and technicians of the plants. From sport to the importance of an environmental friendly industry: during the event visitors were accompanied by special shuttles to the different areas of the Aquarno and Ecoespanso to see how the purification system works.
Aquarno: beating heart of the impressive “Tubone” (The Big Tube). «The opening of these plants to the public-says Silvia Rigatti, President of the Water Treatment Consortium -is a useful initiative to inform and intrigue the community on issues of particular interest for this territory which has in its purification system and treatment of industrial sludge a unique resource ‘, an increasingly central resource in the economy of the whole region, with that mammoth project in progress, known as “Tubone”, which will channel 42 Tuscan municipalities thanks to the Aquarno plant and its performance gained in about 40 years of activity that makes it today one of the most efficient plants of the whole of Europe. In this context, after the new pipeline that connects to the purifier the municipality of Santa Maria a Monte from last year, now it is in progress the work to finish the new volume for the storage of meteoric waters and for the management of more violent atmospheric phenomena that with a capacity of about 24,000 m³ will become the largest of the Aquarno plant.
