You write tanning, you read emotion: the tanning district of Santa Croce Sull'arno confirms the incredible mix of themes, figures and curiosities that makes it one of the most appealing industrial realities, able to involve an increasingly cross-sectional audience, like the one that attended the event Leather Emotion on Wednesday 9th January. The marvellous Sala d’Arme (the Chamber of Arms) of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence was full of guests representing the different realities of the entire national socio-economic fabric.
From the title chosen to introduce the event to its final stages, it was all a succession of emotions, with an audience surprised by the story of the district proposed by the Assoconciatori. The president of the Tuscan Region Enrico Rossi, among the authorities present, pointed out the exceptionality of the tanning district which has become a model of circular economy and the importance of sharing common strategies between the public and private sectors. President Rossi also delivered a recognition to the director of Assoconciatori Piero Maccanti, one of the most representative of the tanning district of Santa Croce sull’Arno. It was introduced by a brilliant monologue by the playwright Stefano Massini. Stefano Nicoletti, Farnesina DG for Development Cooperation, illustrated how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can stimulate virtuous industrial realities such as this district, while Giulia Deidda, mayor of Santa Croce sull'Arno spoke about the uniqueness of the industrial infrastructures of the Tuscan district.
